Bisphenol A, a hormone-like chemical, has been making its presence felt in homes since this item has been used in making consumer products such as soda cans, plastic bottles and even baby toys.
Here are some tips on how to reduce exposure to BPA as shared by the US government together with environmental groups:
• Use glass and ceramic when heating foods in microwaves.
• Go for infant formula that has no BPA on its packaging. Check the FDA website for list of infant formula that are deemed safe.
• Pregnant women and kids should limit consumption of canned food as tests reveal that BPA accumulates from the liner into the food.
• Check the markers at the bottom of plastic food containers. Choose plastics with recycling labels 1, 2 and 4 as they are deemed safer.
• For baby toys, always ask for assistance as to which are BPA-free.
