Baby safety is now being looked into by experts following a recent UK study revealing that cancer-stricken pregnant mothers are most likely to transfer the disease to the unborn child.
One case involving a 28-year old Japanese mom and her young daughter revealed that both of them share the same leukemia cells. The child, who was diagnosed at eleven months, was concluded to have not developed the cancer cells on her own. This led to the conclusion that the baby inherited the cancer from the mother. The conclusion was further strengthened by the results of a genetic fingerprinting process which showed that the cancer cells from the child originated from her mom.
Despite this development, the case is still considered very rare since only 17 previous cases have been documented. However, the scientists are now finding ways to come up with a solution to this problem through further studies and tests.
