Beyondblue, a depression initiative group, surveyed more than 700 men and women and discovered that half of the respondents accept the fact that it is only normal for women to suffer depression during pregnancy. However, the experts from this organization said that this is not one of the usual pregnancy signs women should experience.

Nicole Highet, Beyondblue psychologist and deputy chief executive, said that it is worrying to discover that most of the respondents believe that depression during pregnancy is normal.

She stressed that what’s normal is the so-called “baby blues” but beyond that it is something to be worried about and that proper help should be availed off by women undergoing depression during pregnancy.

The survey was conducted to determine if there’s an ongoing trend on depression during pregnancy and to find out whether people – both men and women – consider this as a normal or abnormal occurrence.
