Body Changes During Your Pregnancy

When you’re pregnant, a lot of things happen. Whether you’ve found out yet that you’re pregnant or not, a lot of physical, hormonal and emotional changes take place over a relatively short period of time. The body has to get ready to adapt to carrying up to 20lb of baby, waters and placenta, which could cause physical strain on all the organs and tissues.

Little aches and pains are quite common when you’re pregnant as your body changes to a shape so it will be able to accommodate the increasing size and weight of the uterus. This means that your posture will see considerable changes.
All of your ligaments soften up during pregnancy because of the hormones, which allows the bones of your pelvis to separate a little bit during the delivery so that the baby’s head fits through the pelvis. This softening has an effect on the whole body and therefore makes you more vulnerable to strain during your pregnancy.

Pregnancy may cause the following aches:

  • neckache
  • headaches
  • aching legs
  • backache
  • fatigue

The baby will grow and grow and take up more space within your abdomen which means that there is less space to move about as your baby will find its preferred position. Your body will adapt to accommodate the position of the baby but if this conflicts with your own postural needs it might cause aches and pains. This is the reason that one pregnancy could be much more uncomfortable to carry than another.
