A recently released study revealed that naming your new born son a common name may not be bad at all. It can actually be bad to give your child a strange or onusual first name.

Shippensburg University Professor David Kalist wrote in journal Social Science Quarterly that giving girly, strange or odd first names to male sons may not be a good idea after all since there’s a bigger possibility that they could end up in jail.

Here are the “bad boy” baby names enumerated by Kalist: Alec, Garland, Ernest, Kareem, Ivan, Luke, Preston, Malcolm, Walter and Tyrell.

The researchers clarified that the names are not going to be the cause of crimes committed but rather the social factors affected by having an unusual name or as the researchers wrote, “increase the tendency toward juvenile delinquency.”

The researchers studied some 15,000 names given the male babies between 1987 and 1991. Based on their research, the stranger the name, the more likely that person tends to commit a criminal act.

One important point stressed is that for someone having an unusual, he is prone to heckling or teasing by his peers thus accumulating bitterness and anger inside. These feelings may be enacted over time.
