Baby Name Trends - Traditional instead of Fashionable

The Hollywood Baby Boom has introduced the world to some of the most unexpected baby names. There’s ‘Shiloh’ and ‘Suri’ for Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise. ‘Apple’ was the name of choice for Gwyneth Paltrow and Colplay lead singer Chris Martin’s baby girl. Other unusual celebrity baby names include ‘Coco’ and ‘Knox’. But despite odd names for celebrity babies, it seems like ordinary parents are opting to go traditional.

A recent survey in the UK showed that most Welsh parents were naming their baby boys ‘Isaac’. Isaac is a name that can be traced back to the early days of the bible. Welsh parents are also calling heir baby girls ‘Zoe’. Zoe as a baby name may seem new and fashionable, but in fact Zoe has its roots in Ancient Greece. Some parents choose to put a twist to their baby’s names by changing the spelling of traditional ones. Some spell their kids names ‘Amee’ instead of the traditional ‘Amy’.

Experts see this trend as a way for parents to revert to something beautiful and easy. But, they also warn that care should be taken when picking out a baby name. Some baby names can be hard to pronounce and spell and can only lead to grief for the child later in life.

Isaac is a cool name - I think it’s quite popular in the US. I’m not so sure on Zoe, mainly because I can’t shake the association with Zoe Ball.
